Margaret Sieben (married Samchuck) passed away on August 12, 2025, in PATH at Ridge Meadows Hospital in Maple Ridge, BC. She was 87 years old.
Margaret was born on August 18, 1937, in Bluesky, Alberta. The third oldest of seven children, born to Philomena Helfrick (Helfrich) and Solomon "Joe" Sieben. Margaret enjoyed spending time reading with her audiobooks and chatting about her family history, her grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren.
"Happy is the person who fondly thinks of their forebears.— Goethe, quoted by Margaret in the Frey History of the Franconian-Alsatian people
Who likes to tell the willing listener the tale of their achievements and greatness,
and is glad to see themselves a link in the beautiful chain."
Margaret created an amazing 4-volume family tree that documents 8 generations of the Sieben, Frey, Helfrick (Helfrich), Samchuck, and Wyryha families — a testament to her devotion to family history and her gift for preserving what matters most.
Adventures travelling with her dear friend Simone included Jerusalem, Egypt, Turks & Caicos, and Africa. She also travelled to the UK with her Daughters.
Margaret was an amazing Mother that raised 4 great people in spite of substantial obstacles. Margaret accomplished entrepreneurship as the founder of Think Hair Salon in Edmonton after years of management at Raymond Salons, in Edmonton, Calgary, and Vancouver.
She may have been tiny in stature, but she was mighty in her love for her family, in her physical and emotional strength and energy, and in her perseverance.
Her sister Betty (Penticton, BC) and brother Robert (Beaverlodge, AB).
Her children: Greta (Maple Ridge), Sheila (Edmonton), and Stephen (Vancouver).
Five grandchildren she cherished: Jeremy, Georgia, Booker, Aleksandra, and Nikolas.
Four great-grandchildren whose lives carry her legacy forward.
The family wishes to thank the amazing staff of Fraser Health and especially PATH at Ridge Meadows Hospital, who made her passing as comfortable and dignified as possible.
